Laser Hair Removal
At Skin Elements of NY, we provide the cutting-edge Horizon™ Diode Laser technology from Italy. This laser emits a highly focused infrared light wavelength that deeply penetrates the skin, specifically targeting the melanin in hair follicles to inhibit hair regrowth. The Horizon™ laser represents an advanced alternative to other options, offering the capability to target multiple hair follicles simultaneously. This feature enables quicker and more consistent treatment outcomes.
Please note: *If you’re planning to have laser treatment on your back and are unable to shave it yourself, we offer a shaving service for an additional fee. Simply inform us when scheduling your appointment, and we’ll allocate extra time for the shave.
How Does it Work?
The Horizon™ laser emits light that specifically targets hair follicles, where it is absorbed and transformed into heat. This heat then damages the follicles, which can inhibit or delay future hair growth. Manufactured in Italy, our laser is renowned for its power and effectiveness in delivering results while minimizing discomfort. It incorporates a Sub-Zero Cooling tip designed to freeze and numb pain receptors, enabling higher energy levels to be used with minimal discomfort. This ensures a comfortable treatment experience for our clients.
Our laser is safe for all skin types.
Safe and Effective Way to Remove Hair
The Horizon™ Diode can be used to safely treat all areas of the body. It is a safe practice that does not cause any negative health effects, as some other cosmetic treatments have been known to do. Each session will last anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes, depending on the area being treated. Though multiple sessions are required to achieve optimal results, you’ll notice a difference after the first treatment. Most individuals will require anywhere from 6 to 8 sessions, but this can vary from person to person.
The Myths about Laser Hair Removal
There is a common misconception that laser hair removal can pose health risks. One prevalent myth is the unfounded claim that the laser light used in this procedure can cause cancer. This rumor is entirely false. The light emitted by our laser machine produces non-ionizing energy, which is not capable of causing cancer. Additionally, the pulses of light are confined to the skin and do not penetrate into the body, ensuring there are no adverse effects on internal organs or DNA. The light energy used in our laser hair removal treatment is specifically designed to target and eliminate hair follicles, leaving surrounding tissues and the entire body completely safe.

The Do's and Don'ts of Laser
Preparing for your treatment:
*If you have had Botox or filler treatments in the area being treated, please wait at least 2-3 weeks before or after any laser or other treatments. This allows time for the new collagen to remodel into smooth skin. Laser treatments, along with our other services, do not dissolve fillers. Therefore, they can be administered 2-3 weeks before or after any treatment, once the skin has fully healed.
Before undergoing laser treatment, it is crucial to adhere to the following guidelines:
Avoid exposing the treated area to sunlight, sunbeds, or spray tans. Use a sunscreen with SPF 30 or preferably SPF 50 (containing at least 9% Zinc Oxide) whenever sun exposure is unavoidable.
Refrain from waxing, plucking, or bleaching hairs in the treatment area at least six (6) weeks before your appointment. Preserving the hair root and pigment is essential for the effectiveness of laser treatment.
Avoid using skin irritants such as glycolic/salicylic acids, benzoyl peroxide, retinol products, or Vitamin C for seven (7) days prior to your treatment.
It is important to shave the area you intend to have laser hair removal on the night before your appointment. This step prevents thermal injury to the skin’s surface by ensuring no hair absorbs the laser’s energy. Shaving also allows the laser to target the hair follicle directly and helps the skin heal in case of any surface cuts during shaving.
After your treatment:
Immediately after the treatment, you may notice erythema (redness and mild swelling) around the hair follicles, resembling large goosebumps. Within two (2) to three (3) weeks post-treatment, approximately 10-20% of the treated hairs will naturally shed.
During the healing phase, it’s important to handle the treated area delicately:
Refrain from rubbing or scratching the area. If crusts form, allow them to fall off naturally.
Apply a thin layer of Aloe Vera ointment multiple times daily to moisturize the skin. Pat the area dry gently.
Avoid taking Ibuprofen or Aspirin, as these medications can react with the laser light.
For the first 24 to 48 hours:
Avoid using bleaching creams or perfume products.
Refrain from exfoliating or using peels.
For the first two (2) days post-treatment:
Refrain from vigorous sports or exercise; however, light walking is encouraged.
Avoid very hot baths, showers, steam baths, saunas, and swimming in strongly chlorinated water.
For the first two (2) to three (3) days:
Avoid wearing tight clothing.
You can resume using skin irritants such as glycolic/salicylic acids, benzoyl peroxide, retinol products, and Vitamin C three (3) days after your treatment.
